How to De-Stress for Deeper Sleep: Ben Coomber’s Anti-Stress Formula

Sleep and stress don’t mix. The build-up to bedtime is your chance to let the day wash away, but most of us rush, scroll, or sip our way into poor-quality rest.

Here’s my anti-stress formula to help you unwind properly and sleep like a pro.

1. Slow Down Before Bed

It sounds simple, but how busy you are before bed really matters.Rushing around the house or cramming in last-minute tasks keeps your nervous system in “go” mode when it should be winding down. Try to move slowly, talk calmly, and approach your evening with softness. Your body will follow your lead.

2. Know Your Triggers

What winds you up? Social media? Work emails? Certain conversations?Whatever it is, protect your mental and emotional energy in that final hour before sleep. If your brain is buzzing or your emotions are stirred, you’ll find it much harder to drift off. Give yourself permission to switch off early.

3. Rethink the Nightcap

Alcohol feels relaxing, but it’s one of the fastest ways to ruin your sleep. Even one glass can disrupt your REM cycles. If you use a drink to unwind, try replacing the habit with something else. Go for a short walk, tidy up, or enjoy a cup of Awesome Night, our research-backed formula designed to calm the mind and prepare your body for deep sleep.

4. Dim the Lights

Bright light blocks melatonin, your natural sleep hormone. In the last hour before bed, swap harsh lighting for lamps, candles, or warm, dim tones. It signals to your brain that it’s time to rest and lets melatonin rise naturally.

5. Create a Wind-Down Routine

My personal ritual looks like this:A warm shower about 30 minutes before bed, a few small chores, then I get into bed and do a short breathing practice - three seconds in, a slow five-to-eight-second exhale, and thoughts of gratitude. It’s incredible how quickly it shifts you into a calm, parasympathetic state. After that, I read something simple and reflective, often stoic philosophy. Nothing too gripping or exciting. Within ten minutes, I’m asleep.

Melt the Stress, Sleep Awesome

Try these steps tonight. Protect your peace, slow down, and give your body the signal it’s been waiting for.

A calm mind makes for a deep, restorative, awesome night’s sleep.
